“Never Been Violent Towards Women”: Tory Lanez Breaks Silence in Emotional Statement on ‘False’ Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Narrative Amid Appeal

Tory Lanez gave his first-ever broadcast interview from prison, speaking to NBC News. Lanez is serving a 10-year sentence in a California state prison after being found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. He was sentenced in August 2023, although he has been in prison since December 2022.

On Thursday, the rapper, who didn’t even testify at his trial, spoke up against the narrative surrounding his case involving Megan. He suggested that people have the wrong idea about him and his behavior toward women.

“I've never been violent toward women,” Lanez told NBC. “I have never hit a woman, let alone shot a woman. There is definitely a very big misconception about me that seems to the public that I'm this monster." "I feel like I was catapulted into the poster child for the protection of Black women, and it's just so unlike me, and I've never really had a chance to express that.”

Lanez continued and suggested that he might not be in prison had he testified at his trial. He also pointed out that there is new evidence in the case, something his lawyers have been noting in their appeals to the court.

“I think if I would have taken the stand, the verdict definitely would have been very different,” he said. “I believe that not only was I wrongfully convicted, but the amount of new evidence that has emerged since that trial has been overwhelming.”

Tory Lanez’s time in prison has not been smooth, as he was attacked in May 2024. Another inmate stabbed the rapper multiple times during an altercation. A court rejected Lanez's appeal in November, but his lawyers remain determined to help him overturn his conviction.

During his interview with NBC, Tory Lanez was asked about what he would say to Megan Thee Stallion after everything that has unfolded between them over the last few years. Lanez answered, clearing up a big misconception about his feelings toward the rapper.

“I think that I would not say something directly to her," Lanez said. "I would like that moment to happen in person. We've both gone through a lot. There's this connotation that I share this hatred for her, but I don't. I'm genuinely past that. I'm at a place of healing in my life.”

Megan Thee Stallion also seems to have moved on from this phase of her life and is in a relationship with four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson. The couple has been going strong since going public with their relationship in July 2025.
