The Brooklyn Nets trade rumors never end. For a team that sits in one of the biggest markets in the world, they have had trouble putting together a championship team. They’ve often been linked to big names in trade and free agent conversations. However, even though the Nets have had a few stars come through their doors, they don’t have much to show for it.
However, Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors have started to get louder. Some think that a Giannis-Nets trade could be exactly what the Nets need to finally get over the hump.
“Brooklyn would be the only team that can take Antetokounmpo's entire contract off Milwaukee's books without sending a single dollar back in active salary,” Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus wrote Wednesday. “In return, Brooklyn has a healthy list of first-round draft picks, including four in June (Nos. 8, 19, 26 and 27) and plenty in the future from teams like the New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers and all of its own.”
The Nets also have some intriguing young players that the Bucks could be interested in retooling around.
This trade idea makes a lot of sense. The Bucks are able to trade with a team that offers them the most possible trade flexibility, while also getting potentially one of the biggest asset returns available in the NBA.
For the Nets, getting Giannis is an absolute no-brainer. Their current roster doesn’t project to have any franchise stars, and they need to get a star to lead them back into the playoff picture.
The only issue with this Nets trade rumor is that Giannis will have to want to play in Brooklyn. Right now, they don’t have another star that Giannis would want to team up with.
What the Nets do have going for them, however, is the bright lights of New York and a ton of assets they could offer Milwaukee.
