NBA rumors: 76ers working to reunite with Ex-Knicks guard?

Cam Payne could be on his way back to the NBA.

The former NBA guard recently joined Partizan Mozzart Bet overseas to continue his playing career at 31. He just might be on his way back to the United States to reunite with the Philadelphia 76ers.

According to BasketNews via Mozzart Sport, Payne is parting ways with Partizan Mozzart Bet after receiving a buyout of $1.75 million. If all goes as planned, it seems Payne could be on his way back to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for a second stint.

Payne played for the Sixers in 2024. During the 2023-2024 season, he was traded at the deadline alongside a 2027 second-round pick from the Milwaukee Bucks. He was moved in the deal for Patrick Beverley.

When Payne parted ways with Milwaukee, he left behind 47 games, averaging 6.2 points and 2.3 assists, while shooting 39 percent from three.

After arriving in Philly, Payne appeared in 31 games, averaging 9.3 points and 3.1 assists. He shot 38 percent from the field during the regular season. In the playoffs, Payne played in five games, putting up 5.6 points per game off the bench and hitting on 44 percent of his threes.

After his time with the Sixers, Payne joined the New York Knicks for the 2024-2025 season. He put up 6.9 points per game, while knocking down 36 percent of his threes throughout the year. Throughout the Knicks’ playoff run, he averaged just 2.1 points in 7.3 minutes throughout a 14-game stretch.

The Indiana Pacers attempted to give Payne a shot during the 2025 preseason. He was waived before opening night, leaving him on the free agency market for multiple months. In late December, Payne signed in Serbia.

The Sixers haven’t confirmed a move just yet. As they have an open roster spot past the deadline, it was only a matter of time before they dipped back into free agency. In Payne, they would gain postseason experience and familiarity.
