Naomi Osaka’s mom was all business for her daughter’s second-round showdown with Katerina Siniakova on Thursday.
Osaka’s mom, Tamaki, showed off her own fashion sense, wearing a stylish suit and silver tie combo to look on as her daughter advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 victory.
Tamaki’s look included a white dress shirt and grey jacket, which she later ditched with temps reaching a muggy 82 degrees in Flushing Meadows on Thursday afternoon.
She also later appeared to loosen the tie for a more casual look while watching on from Osaka’s player’s box.
Other images of Tamaki showed her proudly cheering on her daughter during the match.
Osaka’s mother’s appearance at Thursday’s match on the court at Arthur Ashe was the second notable one she’s made during this year’s tournament, after making a stunning first one at a practice last week in Queens.
During that, Tamaki had dazzled in an eye-catching red dress with black opera-length gloves, accessorized with oversized sunglasses and a glittery pair of Nike Air Max Plus sneakers.
And at Wimbledon this year, Tamaki showed off her fashion sense by donning a lower-covered dress with a woven sun hat and white gloves while watching Osaka compete in a fourth-round match at the All England Club.
Tamaki’s fashion sense shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering the fashion statements that Osaka loves to make on the court.
Earlier this week, Osaka stopped the show when she walked out on the court in a custom Who Decides War tulle gown that featured a hooded top with sewn-in newspaper clippings of her most memorable career moments.
Her on-court outfit was a tribute to NBA great Allen Iverson.
“I really like him a lot. Nike said ‘basketball.’ So I said, ‘OK, you want basketball, I’ll give you basketball.’ I love expressing myself through clothes,” Osaka said on Tuesday. “I don’t like talking that much, I tell people. I’m glad you guys appreciate it and I’ll see you in the next round.”
Not to be outdone, Osaka wore a custom Thom Browne for her match on Thursday.
