Colorado vs. Georgia Tech prediction: College football picks, odds, best bet

Year 4 of the Deion Sanders Era at Colorado gets underway with a clash against Georgia Tech at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta on Thursday night.

The Buffaloes check into Week 1 with low expectations after a 3-9 campaign, leaving many to wonder if this will be the last season for Coach Prime in Boulder.

Bookmakers don’t expect things to get off to a great start for the Buffaloes, as they’re a 6.5-point underdog against the Yellow Jackets in this Week 1 clash.

Colorado vs. Georgia Tech odds, prediction

Sanders will have a lot of new faces in town, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing considering how last year went. Furthermore, his transfer haul, once again, looks pretty flashy on paper.

Quarterback Julian Lewis, who impressed in a small sample at the end of last season, returns, and Sanders surrounded him with a trio of high-upside receivers and several Power 4 offensive linemen from the portal. Chemistry may take a bit, but there is some serious potential here.

There are issues to sort out with a new-look defense, but the story is familiar. Sanders was able to recruit plenty of talented players from the portal, and if they click, the ceiling is high for this unit, too.

While Colorado needed a refresh after last season, Georgia Tech would have continued to roll with what they had in 2026 if the rules allowed it. The Yellow Jackets will replace do-it-all quarterback Haynes King with Alberto Mendoza (brother of Fernando), but there is plenty more where that comes from, including on the sidelines.

Not only does Georgia Tech rank 79th in returning production, but both coordinators are gone, too. That’s especially a bummer on offense, as Buster Faulkner saw his star rise as the OC at Bobby Dodd, turning the Ramblin’ Wreck into one of the most watchable units in all of college football.

Head coach Brent Key deserves the benefit of the doubt after a string of strong seasons, but these will be choppy waters for the Yellow Jackets, and I think a visit from Colorado will be a lot tougher than it looks on paper.
