My favorite blanket brand now makes luxe pet beds — here’s why they’re worth it

1 hour ago 3

As a commerce reporter for the New York Post, I’ve spent a lot of time testing hundreds of pet products.

Alongside my 55-pound Mini Sheepadoodle, Lucy, we’ve field-tested everything from dog boots that don’t get lost in the snow to dog beds and fresh food alternative to kibble. Usually, I’m the one telling my friends what to buy, but recently, the tables have turned.

I first stumbled upon the Lola Blanket brand through a friend who treats her Lola Blanket with the reverence of a museum piece. In her household, the rule is absolute: no one touches the Lola unless they’ve showered.

Naturally, I was skeptical, but I ordered my own the next day. I immediately understood the cult-like obsession. It is remarkably soft, and while I hope my friends at Cozy Earth can forgive me, it’s even softer than the famous Cuddle Blanket — I know, I said it, but it’s true and I’ve tested a lot of blankets.

It became my personal sanctuary until Lucy decided it was hers, too. Obviously, I don’t mind sharing with the love of my life, but when I discovered the brand translated that same luxurious material into dog beds, we had to test it for ourselves.

The Lola Pet Bed

Pros:

  • Comes in three colors and three sizes
  • Machine washable
  • Uber soft and ultra-comfortable with an orthopedic foam mattress

Cons:

  • No instructions in the box for setup
  • Pricey but lasts

Marketed as the softest on the market, the Lola Pet Bed is less of a dog cushion and more of a high-end furniture piece designed to soothe canine joints and calm anxiety.

Before we dig into anything else, yes, this bed cover is machine washable and remains soft after each wash.

The OEKO-TEX Standard 100-certified faux fur is 100% shed-free and double-stitched. It’s so soft that I’ve caught myself considering a nap on it. (Maybe I tried stealing it from her one afternoon.)

Material: Orthopedic foam mattress, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified faux fur | Sizes: Small: 32 x 21 x 9 inches, Medium: 40 x 28 x 10 inches, Large: 48 x 36 x 12 inches | Color options: 3

My Review

My Sheepadoodle is currently claiming the Large size in Bondi Beige, a creamy, sophisticated neutral that makes my space feel even cozier. While the brand offers other chic options like a sleek Charcoal or a warm Desert Dune, all three colors are a nice neutral addition to any living room. Although in my home it’s quite large for a 600-square-foot space, if it makes my dog happy, I’m happy.

The bed arrives vacuum-sealed in tight plastic rolls. Once you snip them free, they spring to life. Although Lola says it may take up to 72 hours for the orthopedic foam to fully expand, mine felt substantial and ready for duty almost immediately.

My only con is that my box was lacking instructions. It seems straightforward, and it is, but I had a few minor trial-and-error assembly faux pas.

Simply unzip the luxurious outer shell and identify the four differently sized bolster pillows. These slide into the perimeter sleeves to create the nesting walls, followed by the main orthopedic mattress in the center.

Is it worth it?

Yes. Once assembled, I found it to be everything you want from a dog bed: comfortable, soft, machine washable, stylish and a place for them to rest their head.

While I’ll agree it’s a bougier-style bed, it’s worth the splurge.

Instead of your dog asking to jump in bed with you, you may be asking to sleep with them  — it’s that comfortable.

Of all the dog beds I’ve tested, this is my absolute favorite one, especially for picky dogs, as Lucy most certainly is. If you’re not sure your dog will enjoy the bed, buy the blanket first to see it they steal it. Lucy often tries to take mine.

How we tested

I put the Lola Pet Bed through a week of real-world use to see if it lived up to its higher price tag. I monitored how my 55-pound dog utilized different angles for lounging, specifically looking for any bottoming out of the orthopedic foam. The mattress remained remarkably resilient. I also paid close attention to the durability of the zippers during assembly and the nesting test, as my dog tends to scratch at the surface before settling in; the double-stitching held firm without any snags or holes.

The light cream shade I chose held up well, hiding dirt, proving surprisingly stain-resistant — dried mud simply seemed to disappear into the fibers rather than matting them down. Even if there were accidents, the cover is machine washable. It held up really well!
