Muramatsu leads PDC Asian Darts Tour after latest weekend in Malaysia

1 hour ago 3

The 2026 PDC Asian Tour continues to gather momentum, with Malaysia playing host to the third stop of the season. Following earlier visits to the United Arab Emirates and Japan, the capital city of Kuala Lumpur staged the next quartet of events on the calendar.

However, it was not the home contingent celebrating. Instead, it was the talented contingent from the Philippines who left with the biggest smiles, with two players set to return home victorious – one of whom, very much so. Remarkably, the nation had failed to register a title across the opening two gatherings - something they emphatically put right this time around.

After a long opening day, the first Filipino to etch his name onto the 2026 honours board was Aris Quijano, who defeated his more established compatriot Christian Perez in season’s ninth event. Recognised apparently as an official Master by the National Darts Federation of the Philippines, Quijano showcased exactly why. The 38-year-old overcame Paolo Nebrida in the quarter-finals before easing past Ryuta Arihara - a title winner earlier in the season - to reach the final. There, he defeated Ryusei Azemoto to become the first Filipino winner of the campaign.

Then, much like London buses, one quickly became two. Nebrida, clearly determined to make amends for his earlier exit, did exactly that. After progressing smoothly through the early rounds, the 31-year-old produced a strong run against fellow Filipinos, defeating Eduardo Largo in the quarter-finals and Perez in the semi-finals before gaining swift revenge on Quijano in the final. He would go on to have an even more enjoyable trek to Malaysia.

On Sunday, a familiar name returned to the winner’s circle, as league leader Haruki Muramatsu claimed his third title of the season with a commanding victory over China’s Lihao Wen. Having already secured the opening two events of the campaign, Muramatsu completed his hat-trick with a composed and largely trouble-free run, dropping just five legs throughout the tournament - three of which came in the semi-final against Motomu Sakai.

Rounding off a high-quality weekend of action, Nebrida returned to claim his second title in as many days - and his eighth career accolade on the Asian Tour. Known as Pow, he produced a dominant display, reaching the semi-finals while conceding just a single leg. After defeating Sakai, the four-time PDC World Darts Championship qualifier secured the title with a 5-3 win over another of Japan’s finest, Yuta Hayashi.

With twelve events now completed and the season approaching its halfway point, the Order of Merit is beginning to take shape. Attention now turns to the next stops on the tour, with Mongolia up next, followed by visits to Singapore, the Philippines, and ending in China mid-September.
