A fearless mother leaped off a Carnival cruise dock to rescue her 4-year-old daughter, who slipped and became trapped between the ship and the pier.
The wily child “briefly walked away from her mother” and right off the pier during a stop at Carnival Cruise Line’s exclusive Grand Bahama island, the Celebration Key.
The mother was in the water retrieving her floundering kid within seconds as Carnival employees rushed to haul the pair back to dry land, according to an email statement from the cruise line.
“Our ship and security team quickly brought them both to safety, and our medical team evaluated them. Both are doing well,” Carnival said.
An eagle-eyed TikToker captured the heart-stopping accident from their room on the Carnival Conquest, which was also docked at the island.
“I’m sitting in my room on the Carnival Conquest and I heard screaming outside. Apparently, people fell between the dock and the Carnival Sunrise,” the creator wrote.
In the video, a crowd of people are huddled near the edge of the pier. Some were seen peering into the water before a security guard warded them away.
With the dock cleared, crew members dressed in beige and blue coveralls take the onlookers’ place at the edge and toss life preservers into the water before lowering a nearby ladder.
“We got officers coming off the boat now,” the creator commentates in the viral video.
When the officers scale back up the ladder, they have a small child tucked in their arms. Flabbergasted witnesses broke out in applause as the drenched girl rushed into a woman’s open arms.
The officers dip back down into the water and return with the child’s mother who dove into the water, sparking another round of applause.
The mother collapsed to her knees and burst into tears as staff bundled her and the child up in fresh towels.
“They were pulled to safety. Very scary situation, but they were rescued quickly!” the creator celebrated.
The TikToker said she was able to make contact with the family, who assured that they were “traumatized” but overall doing “fine.”
“I’m so glad this all turned out ok and everyone was brought to safety. She was a brave woman, but any mother would do the same!” the user wrote.
