Even after one of the slowest starts of his MLB career, Mookie Betts continues proving he is far more than just another superstar on the field. The Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop has spent years building one of the strongest personal brands in baseball, and now another major part of that platform is officially returning. Betts announced Thursday that Season 4 of his “On Base With Mookie Betts” show has arrived, with Jo Adell serving as the first guest of the new season.
The show, available through Bleacher Report, has become one of the more unique player-driven projects in professional sports. Instead of standard interviews, Betts regularly gives fans relaxed and personal conversations with some of the biggest names around baseball. It has helped showcase a different side of MLB players that fans do not always get to see during games or postgame press conferences.
Mookie Betts continues becoming one of baseball’s biggest personalities
Betts already had one of the most decorated resumes in baseball long before launching his show. The former American League MVP is an eight-time All-Star, seven-time Silver Slugger winner and six-time Gold Glove recipient. He has also won four World Series championships between his time with the Dodgers and Boston Red Sox. But over the past few years, Betts has expanded his reach far beyond baseball.
He hosted the MLB Awards show this offseason and has increasingly become one of the league’s most recognizable public faces. At a time when MLB continues searching for ways to market its stars, Betts has naturally evolved into one of the sport’s easiest personalities to promote. That matters even more as baseball tries to connect with younger audiences through podcasts, YouTube content and player-driven media.

Dodgers are still waiting for vintage Mookie Betts at the plate
While his media profile keeps growing, the Dodgers are still hoping Betts fully finds his rhythm offensively. The 33-year-old missed time earlier this season because of a right oblique strain, and his overall production has remained below his usual standards. Still, there are signs things may be turning around. Over his last five games, Betts has started showing more life at the plate while the Dodgers continue battling with the San Diego Padres atop the National League West standings.
Los Angeles enters its upcoming series against the Milwaukee Brewers after taking an important road series at Petco Park against San Diego. Even while navigating injuries and inconsistency, Betts continues finding ways to stay at the center of baseball conversations. Few players in the sport today balance superstar production, leadership and mainstream visibility quite like he does.
