The Arizona Diamondbacks have joined the race to sign Alex Bregman, amid Ketel Marte’s uncertain future. The Yankees still consider Jazz Chisholm Jr. part of their “solution," and they’ve reportedly expressed open-mindedness in trade discussions.
Let’s take a look at the signing possibilities and trade scenarios for both players in this offseason frenzy.
Diamondbacks emerge as surprise Alex Bregman suitor

Alex Bregman has been one of the top free agents in 2025 with several teams linked to the third baseman. While the Boston Red Sox have indicated interest in a reunion, their contract talks have stalled.
According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, one of the new teams to join the race is the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, signing Bregman raises questions about Ketel Marte’s future, with $92M owed to the second baseman over the next five seasons and a 2031 player option.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have become a surprise entrant in the Alex Bregman sweepstakes and are ‘kicking the tires’ on the possibility. The Dbacks would certainly have the financial flexibility if they move 2B Ketel Marte and could move 3B Jordan Lawlar to 2B.
Trading Marte could help the Diamondbacks sign Bregman. Likewise, according to MLB’s Mark Feinsand, the Red Sox are the frontrunners to acquire Marte. Apart from the Diamondbacks, Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, and New York Mets are also teams interested in Bregman pursuit.
Bregman is believed to be looking for a potential five-year deal, which resulted in stalled discussions with the Red Sox. Given Scott Boras as his agent, it’s not surprising if the 3B reaches a potential high-end deal by the end of free agency.
Yankees “open-minded” for trading Jazz Chisholm Jr.
The New York Yankees have reportedly shown interest in being “open-minded” on trade talks about Jazz Chisholm Jr.; however, they still consider him a key player in the locker room. Since the start of the offseason, the team’s focus has been on re-signing Cody Bellinger, and they are still in discussions over their potential reunion.
Brian Cashman indicated that he’ll be open to “challenge trades” to address the need for the roster and to give the team a boost for a championship run. MLB analysts Matt Vasgersian and Harold Reynolds, in a recent segment, pointed out how trading Chisholm might also backfire, given that he ranked 4th among all second basemen in 2025.
Chisholm has repeatedly expressed his interest in staying with the Yankees, but as of now, nothing can be said for sure. If a scenario arises where a team presents an attractive deal, the Yankees might entertain trading Chisholm.
