The World Series is one of the longest-running championships in sports, as many franchises have reached the pinnacle of baseball.
However, not every team has been able to raise the Commissioner's Trophy. For some teams, the World Series title has been an elusive goal throughout their histories in Major League Baseball.
The first Fall Classic was played in 1903, and outside of a few years when it was tabled, has been a consistent finale for the baseball season ever since. Here's a breakdown of all the teams that have never been baseball's champion.

MLB teams that have never won a World Series
Five teams have never won the World Series, and they have combined for six World Series appearances overall. Additionally, every team with at least three appearances has one at least one title.

MLB teams to never play in a World Series
- Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners are the only team to have never played in the World Series. Established in 1977, the Mariners have just six playoff appearances and two ALCS appearances, once in 1995 and another in 2001.
Seattle became the final team to never make a World Series in 2007, when the Rockies made their first appearance.

Most World Series appearances without a win
- San Diego Padres, 2
- Tampa Bay Ras, 2
The Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Padres are tied for the most World Series appearances without a win with two each. The Rays, who's first season was in 1997, lost to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008 and to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020. Those two years also mark the two times that the Rays have played in the ALCS in their history.
The Padres, on the other hand, lost to the Detroit Tigers in 1984 and to the New York Yankees in 1998. The only other championship series in which the Padres appeared was in 2022, when they lost to the Phillies.
Besides those two teams, the Colorado Rockies and Milwaukee Brewers each have just one appearance without a World Series win, while the Mariners haven't even made The Fall Classic in their history.
