MLB insider reveals Astros trade deadline plans amid Isaac Paredes' injury

With the MLB trade deadline less than a week away, the Houston Astros are expected to be buying talent to bolster their injured roster. Houston could bring in a left fielder or second baseman. But after the injury to Isaac Paredes, their plans have taken a turn.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Astros are looking to bring in a new third baseman at the trade deadline after the injury to Isaac Paredes.

"The Houston Astros would like to find a third baseman while Isaac Paredes recovers from his hamstring tear," Nightengale writes.

This report from Nightengale indicates that while the Astros will look to bring in a third baseman, it might not be as a Paredes replacement, but rather a stopgap until the All-Star third baseman gets healthy.

Houston needs to bolster their roster, which has 18 players on the injured list, the most in baseball this season. Offensively, the Astros have lost Yordan Alvarez, Jeremy Pena, Jake Meyers, Jacob Melton, and, most recently, Paredes.

His absence stings, and compounded with the rest of the injuries on the roster, the Astros need to strongly consider adding help offensively. With Brice Matthews securing second base and Jose Altuve also playing well, a third baseman is the top need for Houston.

Ryan McMahon, a left-handed hitting third baseman, would've been a nice pickup. But, he went to the New York Yankees. There are other options on the market, but the team could look to bring in a rental as opposed to a deadline splash to fill the void at third.

With Paredes expected to miss significant time, the Astros are looking to bring in a new third baseman. Less than a week from the deadline, the Astros' trade deadline plans are taking shape, with a third base addition strongly in consideration.
