The Boston Red Sox had multiple players break out last season, but the biggest surprise was probably rookie Wilyer Abreu. He put on such a show that fans voted him into the top ten right fielders in the MLB, sitting right at no. 10.
Last season Abreu was nothing short of amazing. He finished the season with splits of .253/.322/.459/.781 with 33 doubles and 15 home runs, and he won the AL Gold Glove for right field.
Abreu was getting shopped around this offseason, and for good reason. He put up some great stats as a rookie, and it’s only up from there.
However, it seems any talks with him as a piece have cooled, so Abreu and top Sox prospect Roman Anthony will be battling it out for the starting position in right field.
Hopefully Abreu takes another step forward, to become even more valuable, and the Sox either decide to keep him long-term, or make a blockbuster trade with him at the center of it.
