Mike McDaniel might only have to take a quick trip west in Florida.
After being fired by the Dolphins last week, McDaniel will interview with the Buccaneers for their vacant offensive coordinator opening Friday, according to multiple reports, after firing Josh Grizzard following a disappointing season.
Fox Sports reported that McDaniel “would consider a great (offensive coordinator) opportunity better than a not-great head coaching vacancy.”
Mike McDaniel could be headed to Tampa Bay as he interviews for their offensive coordinator gig. APThe Buccaneers opening certainly has that potential.
Todd Bowles’ group started the season 5-1, with consecutive impressive wins over the now-Super Bowl favorite Seahawks and the 49ers, but wilted by season’s end with an 8-9 record to miss the playoffs.
The Carolina Panthers won the NFC South thanks to the Buccaneers’ collapse, as Tampa Bay went 3-8 to close the season, resulting in massive coaching changes.
McDaniel already interviewed with the Lions for their highly coveted offensive coordinator job, which would also qualify as a strong opportunity for him to rebuild his value.
He previously interviewed with the Browns for their head coaching job and is scheduled to interview with the Ravens, while the Falcons and Titans are also on his short list of options.
It will be interesting to see what is considered a non-premium NFL head coaching job, given that there are only 32 of those highly coveted positions available.
Mike Evans missed time due to injuries, but is still an elite offensive weapon. Getty ImagesThe Giants expect to hire John Harbaugh this week, first reported by The Post’s Paul Schwartz, leaving eight openings, including McDaniel’s former Dolphins team.
Prior to Harbaugh’s commitment to the Giants, he planned to interview with the Falcons and Titans, perhaps pointing to those two jobs as strong openings for a prospective coach like McDaniel.
The Browns may represent a non-premium job, as they are still in a bad salary cap spot thanks to an insane Deshaun Watson contract that continues to hamper their flexibility and uncertainty at the QB position beyond that.
Rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel shared the position last year, but neither are a sure thing to be the team’s QB of the future.
