Mike McDaniel makes Dolphins starting quarterback announcement for Week 8

The Miami Dolphins made a change at the quarterback position ahead of the Week 7 game versus the Cleveland Browns, promoting rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers to No. 2 on the depth chart over Zach Wilson.

Then, Ewers saw the first action of his NFL career in place of Tua Tagovailoa on Sunday in garbage time and went on to complete 5-of-8 passes for 53 scoreless yards.

Just in case you were wondering, no, the Dolphins are not going to Ewers moving forward. Head coach Mike McDaniel revealed that Tagovailoa remains the team's starting quarterback in South Beach, even though he has struggled mightily.

"Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters in Miami Gardens that Tua Tagovailoa remains starting QB for team," David Furones of the Sun Sentinel reported.

No surprise there.

After all, Tua still gives Miami the best chance to win, and Miam's embattled head coach needs plenty of those the rest of the way if he wants to keep his job.

Speaking of McDaniel's job, reports suggest there is no change imminent, and based on the fact that he addressed the media on Monday, it would appear he's probably safe for at least another week.

As for Ewers, the Dolphins should try and get an extended look at him at some point.

With major changes likely after this season, Miami needs to know what it has in its seventh-round pick before it potentially drafts a quarterback in 2026.

Granted, being the late-round pick he is, Ewers is highly unlikely to pan out, but it sure wouldn't hurt to find out in the midst of a lost season.
