A Colorado middle school teacher is accused of having sex with a troubled teenage student for more than a year — and then stalking him when he dumped her.
Teresa Whalin, a 28-year-old health teacher in suburban Denver, allegedly admitted to cops that she’d been in a sexual relationship with the student — as well as exchanging nude photos and making fake phone numbers to anonymously call him, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Denver Post.
The boy — who had been cutting himself while struggling with his mental health — was 12 years his teacher’s junior, according to the docs, suggesting he was around 14 when they started having sex in April 2023.
The confused student described their relationship as “dating,” saying he and his teacher exchanged racy Snapchat messages, went out to eat and spent time together in her classroom at Ranch View Middle School in Highlands Ranch.

She would drive around the student’s home and show up on his route to and from school, scaring him enough that he felt forced to take different routes or get rides with friends’ families, the docs said.
The student revealed the sexual relationship to a school counselor on Monday, who in turn notified authorities. Whalin was arrested later that day, according to the Denver Post.
During an interview with police, Whalin allegedly confessed to being in a sexual relationship with the student and exchanging nude photos. She also admitted making fake phone numbers to anonymously contact him, claiming that she thought it would make the teen turn to her for help.
Whalin was a health teacher at Ranch View Middle School. Ranch View Middle SchoolShe is charged with sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, internet exploitation of a child and stalking, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. She was booked at the Douglas County Detention Center where she’s being held on a $50,000 bond.
Whalin has been employed by the Douglas County School District since July 2021. She has been placed on administrative leave, according to a letter sent to parents by Ranch View principal Erin Kyllo.
“We are working to find a long-term substitute teacher for our impacted students,” Kyllo wrote. “In the meantime, the entire Ranch View Middle School administrative team will support our students and ensure learning continues.”
