Michigan State predicted to land 4-star transfer QB from Alabama

Michigan State's program is in need of a turnaround.

To do it, the Spartans need to land the right QB.

Quarterback isn't the only thing that matters, of course. But it is the most important position in sports. It can be a huge boost to a team to get the right passer.

Michigan State will surely dip into the transfer portal to find one. But who can they get?

There is a connection working in their favor, and it could have them end up with Austin Mack, a former four-star recruit who is at Alabama.

Mack hasn't announced his plans yet, but if he goes into the portal, MSU could be in play, according to The Athletic's Manny Navarro.

"Former Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald replaced Jonathan Smith, and it looks as though he is hiring Kalen DeBoer assistant Nick Sheridan as his offensive coordinator," Navarro writes. "That could open the door for Crimson Tide backup Mack, who has yet to announce his plans for next season."

Familiarity is so key in these quick transfer recruitments. There isn't the long, drawn out process of high school recruiting, and so a face that a player already knows can be a big deal.

Mack doesn't seem likely to break through and be the Crimson Tide QB in the future. Given that, he could look to move on.

Michigan State and Mack could form a good partnership if they want to go that route.
