Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham is parting ways with general manager Sean Magee, marking another significant shift inside the program following a dramatic offseason, according to a report by On3

Magee, who was hired in March 2024 as senior associate athletic director and general manager, arrived in Ann Arbor after serving as chief of staff for the Chicago Bears during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Widely regarded as one of college football’s top front-office architects, Magee oversaw recruiting, player personnel and NIL strategy.

He played a role in flipping the nation’s No. 1 quarterback recruit, Bryce Underwood, in the 2025 cycle and was instrumental in maintaining roster stability during the coaching transition. Michigan lost 27 players following the firing of Sherrone Moore, but retained a core group that positions the Wolverines well for the 2026 season.

Magee previously worked under former coach Jim Harbaugh from 2017 to 2021, overseeing football operations, budget administration and player personnel. He also contributed to building Michigan’s 2023 national championship roster.

The move comes three months after athletic director Warde Manuel dismissed Moore and hired Whittingham to lead the program. With the transfer portal window closed and the 2026 signing class secured, Whittingham elected to reshape the personnel department with his own hires.

Magee brought a distinctive resume to the college ranks. His departure shows Whittingham’s effort to chart a new course in Ann Arbor.
