Michigan hands Nebraska first loss of 2025-26 season

In a battle of two of the top five teams in all of college basketball, fans did not leave the game disappointed in the action. It was nonstop action in front of a sold-out Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor on a cold Tuesday night. The surprise team in college basketball, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, scored 50 points in the first half of the game and led the Michigan Wolverines by four.

The Cornhuskers then struggled to score in the second half. Just 22 points from the visitors in the second half led to the first loss of the season for Fred Hoiberg's team.

The game was tied at 72-72 with 1:46 to go. A couple of turnovers and missed shots led to the tough ending for Nebraska, and late missed shots from Jamarques Lawrence and 

The final score ended 75-72, with Michigan taking it in a thrilling conference battle.

Nebraska is now 20-1, and 9-1 in league play. Michigan is 19-1 and also 9-1 in the Big Ten. Michigan State went to 9-1, and Illinois is 8-1.

The Cornhuskers will host the Illinois Fighting Illini on Sunday in a rematch of the December 13th game in Champaign. Nebraska won that game by a final score of 83-80. The Cornhuskers then go to Rutgers on February 7th. 

For Michigan, they will look to start a new winning streak as they head to East Lansing and take on the Michigan State Spartans on Friday. After that, they are back home on February 5th to host the Penn State Nittany Lions.

This is the only regular-season meeting between these two teams.
