The heat has continued to rise for Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees. Judge is clearly one of the best baseball players this game has ever seen, and as things currently stand, is at worst, the second-best player in the league.
However, the argument against him now is that he isn't clutch, and not everybody thinks that's very fair.
While Judge has taken the backlash, longtime Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay pushed back on the narrative, being real about how bad the Team USA lineup was in the championship game against Team Venezuela.
“We can go up and down that All-Star-laden-Hall-of-Fame-to-be lineup and they all crapped the bed. Every single one of them except for Harper,” Kay said, via YouTube. “But the one guy who’s going to get villainized and scrutinized and criticized, the one guy that everybody decides, ‘I’m going to pile on this guy,’ is Aaron Judge, who if you look at his numbers in the WBC, probably had as good a WBC as anybody that played on Team USA.”
The reality, as Kay pointed out, is that Team USA’s struggles weren’t just one player. Even with a star-studded roster, the group didn't hit much in the tournament.
But, as always, when it comes to Judge, the standard is different.
