This marks Miami’s first Sunday season opener since 2018, when the 'Canes faced Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson and LSU at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, as part of the now-defunct Advocare Classic.

Despite the home-field advantage, Miami might have trouble with Notre Dame. The Irish are coming off a 14-2 season that culminated in a loss to Ohio State in the National Championship Game. Notre Dame is also 18-8-1 all-time against the Hurricanes, and it has won seven of its past eight season openers.

These teams have met in Florida 14 times, with Miami going 7-6-1 in those matchups. The Irish are 1-2 lifetime at Hard Rock Stadium, with their most recent win there coming in the 2025 CFP Semifinal at the Orange Bowl, a 27-24 win over Penn State. Miami clobbered the Irish when these teams last met at Hard Rock in Nov. 2017. 

Needless to say, these teams will both be getting up for this huge season-opening game on Labor Day weekend. Both squads hope to make a bid at a national title, so every game will be of dire importance. Which powerhouse will prevail?
