Miami Heat get big update on $305M future Hall of Famer, 6x All-Star to join Giannis Antetokounmpo

One of the biggest names remaining in free agency is 17-year veteran DeMar DeRozan, who is looking to join a championship-contending team. Over the last few seasons, DeRozan has not played for teams that have been legitimate playoff contenders.

The six-time All-Star is looking to make an impact on a roster, and he is now able to choose his next destination after being waived by the Sacramento Kings.

“The Sacramento Kings have waived DeMar DeRozan, the team announced Monday, making the six-time All-Star one of the top free agents on the market. DeRozan had a partial guarantee on his contract for next season, but he and Sacramento worked on his release to allow him to find a new home. Multiple contenders are expected to have interest in the veteran guard," ESPN wrote.

The Miami Heat have been mentioned as a potential landing spot for DeRozan, as the two sides have been connected for some time.

“Miami Heat have been a Derozan landing spot for years now, there's been so much connectivity between him and the Heat and I do think the Heat seem to be the most likely scenario for DeMar DeRozan right now…Miami is probably his best bet…those other spots really don't have spending power," The Stein Line's Jake Fischer said.

While the Heat have remained near the top of his potential landing spots, DeRozan has yet to agree to a deal. With free agency entering a slower period, there appears to be no rush for DeRozan to finalize a deal with Miami.

“This is generally the slowest time of the year and there’s no urgency for DeMar to find a spot,” reported Doug Smith of the Toronto Star. “I still think Brooklyn, Miami, Portland and Denver are interesting spots where he’d fit. There’s just no sense anyone’s in any rush.”

It makes sense for this to be a slower period, as teams are trying to figure out what to do with their final roster spots. Adding more offensive firepower in Miami would make sense, especially with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo already on the roster.

DeRozan would be a strong addition for the Heat because of the offensive production he can provide. While he has some defensive limitations, Miami already has several strong defenders who could help cover for those weaknesses on the court.
