The Mumbai Indians (MI) have retained their core of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Matthews, Amanjot Kaur, and G Kamalini ahead of the first-ever Women's Premier League (WPL) mega auction, scheduled for November 27. The defending champions had some tough calls to make, with names like Amelia Kerr, Yastika Bhatia, and Pooja Vastrakar
The two-time winners had built a well-rounded squad during the inaugural auction, and have opted to stick with the same leader to take them into the next cycle as well. Harmanpreet Kaur recently led India to the World Cup title as well, and will have fellow team member Amanjot Kaur by her side, as well as a valuable Indian all-rounder.
Both Nat Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews have played pivotal roles in both of MI's title wins in the first cycle of the WPL. Among the premier overseas all-rounders in the game, Sciver-Brunt is the leading run-scorer in WPL history, even winning the Orange Cap in the 2025 edition. Matthews, on the other hand, is the leading wicket-taker in the tournament's history, bagging the Purple Cap in the inaugural edition.
The franchise have also chosen to place their trust in uncapped 17-year-old wicket-keeper G Kamalini. She was roped in by the franchise for a massive price tag of INR 1.6 crore during the WPL 2025 mini auction. She has played in nine matches for the franchise, and is billed as one for the future.
List of players retained by the Mumbai Indians with price tags in INR
Nat Sciver-Brunt - INR 3.5 crore
Harmanpreet Kaur - INR 2.5 crore
Hayley Mathews - INR 1.75 crore
Amanjot Kaur - INR 1 crore
G Kamalini - INR 50 Lakhs
MI have a purse of INR 5.75 crore remaining for the WPL 2026 mega auction
It is to be noted that the WPL franchises have a total budget of INR 15 crore to build their entire squad, including their retentions. As MI have used their full quota of retentions, they have spent INR 9.25 in that regard. This leaves them INR 5.75 crore to revamp the rest of the squad aside from their core members.
Since MI have chosen to retain the maximum limit of five players, they will not avail the opportunity to use the Right to Match (RTM) Card during the auction.
