Learner Tien will take on former top 10 player Matteo Berrettini in the quarterfinals of the Moselle Open 2025.

Tien scored a 6-3, 6-3 win over Ugo Blanchet to reach the second round, where he was up against lucky loser Moez Echargui. A close first set went the American's way after he outplayed his opponent in the tie-break. The second set went his way as well, with a single break of serve helping him score a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win.

Berrettini beat Quentin Halys 6-2, 6-4 to set up a second-round showdown with Aleksandar Vukic. The opening set went down to a tie-break, in which the Italian rallied from 3-5 down to take the set. After being on even footing for most of the second set, Berrettini broke the deadlock with a three-game run to win the match 7-6 (5), 6-3.

Berrettini is bidding to end yet another injury-riddled season on a high. He's through to the quarterfinals in Metz without losing a set, and is into his fifth quarterfinal of the season. He rained down 15 aces against Vukic in the previous round and won 88 percent of points behind his first serve.

Tien is on the verge of wrapping up his breakthrough season on a strong note. His first full season on the ATP Tour has been a learning experience for him. A fourth-round finish at the Australian Open marked the start of his breakout run, though a six-match losing streak in between was a low point for him.
