Following the trade deadline, the New York Mets had several open spots on the Major League roster.
The NL East club traded four of its relievers, including Luke Weaver, A.J. Minter, Brooks Raley and Huascar Brazoban.
To fill one of those open bullpen slots, New York promoted left-hander Jefry Yan from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, reports Francys Romero on X.
Yan, 29, signed with the Los Angeles Angels out of the Dominican Republic in 2014. The Mets added him to the active roster in July, but he did not make his MLB debut.
Now, Yan has a chance to electrify fans with his unique and exciting strikeout celebration.

— Baseball Quotes (@BaseballQuotes1) August 3, 2026Yan has posted a 3.24 ERA across 35 appearances between Double-A and Triple-A in the Mets organization in 2026. He has struck out 43.5% of the batters he's faced.
“I haven’t had any trouble with anyone, neither here nor anywhere else, nor in my own country,” Yan told MLB.com's David Venn about his celebration in February. “Honestly, a lot of people laugh, and many tell me, ‘You outdid yourself, you made me go viral,’ but they know that I enjoy what I do. I don’t disrespect them, the team, nor the fans.

“I’ve always been like this. I’ve always been a very energetic, cheerful kind of guy who likes to have fun in the game and enjoy the moment.”
Yan could get his first opportunity to showcase his energetic personality on the mound within the next few days.
