Mets' Mark Vientos reportedly hiring Scott Boras as new agent

After failing to build off his breakout 2024 campaign, New York Mets infielder Mark Vientos is reportedly hiring a new agent ahead of the 2026 season.

Will Sammon of The Athletic reported on Monday that Vientos is hiring Scott Boras as his new agent. Boras, of course, represents most of Major League Baseball's prolific players and is the president of Boras Corporation. Sammon also reported that Vientos is arbitration-eligible for the first time after next season.

The 26-year-old entered last year for New York as the starting third baseman after stringing together a career year in 2024. Despite starting the 2024 season in Triple-A, Vientos wound up playing in 111 games for the Mets, batting .266/.322/.516 with a career-high 27 home runs, 71 RBI and a career-best .802 OPS. Vientos also had an excellent postseason for the Amazins', slashing .327/.362/.636 with five home runs and 14 RBI (which was a Mets franchise record for postseason runs batted in).

Despite entering this past season as a for-sure lock to be the ballclub's starting third baseman and perhaps third baseman of the future, Vientos endured an inconsistent and injury-riddled 2025 season. While he did appear in a career-high 121 games last season, Vientos batted just .233 with 17 homers, 61 RBI and an OPS of .702.

Vientos would wind up becoming the forgotten man at third base. He ended up platooning DH after fellow third baseman Brett Baty strung together a breakout season of his own for the Mets in 2025, prompting him to become the starter for most of last season and potentially in 2026.

Though the Mets did see their homegrown first baseman, Pete Alonso (who is also represented by Boras), sign a five-year, $155 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles last week, Vientos' future in Flushing is certainly in flux despite the slugger also having played first base at the major league level in the past.

Vientos hiring Boras as his new agent could prompt him to seek a long-term deal with the Mets or elsewhere. Even though he's been inconsistent since arriving in the big leagues, Vientos' power at the plate is undeniable.
