There's plenty going wrong this season for the New York Mets.
It seems, though, that they got at least one thing right in the offseason.
The Mets decided not to bring Cedric Mullins back, and he signed a one-year contract for $7.5 million with the Tampa Bay Rays instead.
Now, Mullins is hardly playing like an MLB-level player for Tampa Bay.
Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller writes in a new article on Monday that he thinks the Rays may even consider designating Mullins for assignment -- which would remove him from the 40-man roster and place him on waivers.
Mullins likely wouldn't get claimed on his current contract, but he could then elect free agency if that happened.
"To his credit, Mullins has been better in recent weeks," Miller writes. "His home run this past Friday was the capstone on a 16-game stretch with an .881 OPS. However, he was at .421 prior to that, after closing out last season with a .419 OPS in his final 24 games played. If outfield prospect Jacob Melton hadn't suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain in late April, he might have taken over Mullins' job prior to that aforementioned 16-game stretch."

Mullins only came to the Mets in the second half of last season in a trade from the Baltimore Orioles. He was supposed to help solve centerfield, but he didn't hit much at all.
The bat hasn't really woken up for Mullins with the Rays, save this recent strong stretch.
Tampa Bay is one of those organizations that may let Mullins figure it out rather than just dismissing him.
But regardless of what the Rays do, it's clear the Mets aren't missing much by not having Mullins.
