Mets linked to Byron Buxton after Luis Robert Jr. news

The New York Mets have been linked to multiple center fielders over the past few months. With Jose Siri down with an injury and the Mets' outfield needing to be better, there could be a few options for them at the deadline.

Reports have recently indicated that the team is interested in trading for Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox.

On Wednesday morning, another writer linked them to a different outfielder in the form of Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins.

"The New York Mets are searching for an upgrade in centerfield ahead of the trade deadline at the end of July.

"Bob Nightengale reported just a few days ago that the Mets were inquiring about Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox. If that doesn't work out, the Mets could pursue $100 million outfielder Byron Buxton from the Minnesota Twins," Drew VonScio of Newsweek wrote.

Buxton is a very good player, but for parts of his career, he hasn't been able to stay on the field.

Frankly, that's been nearly every season of his career, appearing in more than 102 games just once in his 11 years at the major league level.

It's been an unfortunate situation for one of the better players in baseball when he's healthy, but that's who he is.

However, Buxton has managed to stay healthy early on, already appearing in 38 games and hitting nine home runs.

The Mets would be taking a risk in a deal for him, but for a team that wants to win a World Series, these are the type of moves they might have to make.

Sure, trading for somebody else might be the safer option, but Buxton is elite and would be welcomed in this lineup.
