Mets give Kodai Senga update after strong minor league start

It's been a rude awakening for New York Mets pitcher Kodai Senga since returning from the injured list in July from a Grade 1 hamstring strain.

The team decided to send the 32-year-old to the minor leagues after having a 6.56 ERA over his last eight major league starts. It was a move that was deemed necessary to get the once Cy Young Award candidate back to his dominant ways.

Senga made his first minor league start on Friday and dominated in Triple-A. Through six innings, he gave up just three hits and one earned run while striking out eight.

Manager Carlos Mendoza announces next steps for Kodai Senga

Although Kodai Senga seemed dominant in his first minor league start, New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza will continue to stay patient with the starting pitcher's journey to regain dominance.

Before the team attempts to snap their seven-game losing streak in a game against the Texas Rangers on Saturday, Mendoza announced that Senga will make another start in the minor leagues before getting promoted back to the majors.

"He's going to make another one (start). He's gotta be down there for 15 days anyway. See how he responds to the next few days. Continue to work on his mechanics, but the plan for him is to make another one," Mendoza told the press.

Although Kodai Senga has struggled over his most recent starts, he's still in line for a successful 2025 season. Through 22 starts this season, he has a 7-6 record, 3.02 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and has 109 strikeouts over 113.1 innings.
