Mets demote Christian Scott after rough season debut to add veteran reliever

What’s left of the Mets bullpen got a fresh arm Friday, as veteran right-hander Carl Edwards Jr. was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse.

To make room for Edwards, Christian Scott was optioned to Syracuse after a horrific outing in his return from Tommy John surgery on Thursday.

Scott lasted just 1 1/3 innings after walking five batters and hitting another.

His early exit forced Tobias Myers and David Peterson into action, as the already depleted pen is relying on multiple starters — including Sean Manaea — to get by.

The 34-year-old Edwards last appeared in the majors in 2025.

He’s spent parts of 11 years in the big leagues.
