Mets' Carson Benge joins Lenny Dykstra in baseball history

Carson Benge has hit the ground running to begin his MLB career with the New York Mets.

What he's done so far has only been done twice before in Mets franchise history.

The feat here: hitting at least one home run and stealing at least two bases in a player's first four games with the Mets.

Lenny Dykstra did that to begin his major league career with the Mets.

The much less heralded Matt den Dekker did it, too.

And now Benge has done it, with the stat coming from MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.

This is certainly the kind of difference-making start the Mets would've hoped to see from Benge. They didn't have to keep him on their Opening Day roster, but he earned the starting right field job.

And on the Opening Day of the season, Benge homered.

Since then, he's gotten his running game going, which shows the kind of dual-threat player he can be for the Mets.

Benge was actually a two-way player in college at Oklahoma State, also a really high-quality pitcher.

Now, he's an outfielder with power and speed.

And so far, he's off to a great start. There's a lot of time, but Benge looks equipped to be a quality big leaguer for a long time.
