Mets are no longer MLB’s most disappointing team — here’s who took up the mantle

This probably isn’t cause for all-out celebration, but the Mets’ recent hot steak means they should no longer be considered MLB’s most disappointing team. 

Here’s our top four most disappointing (or should be it be bottom four?): 

1. Mariners

The prohibitive favorite in the ultra-weak A.L. West is 68-78 with a negative-75 run differential (worse than the Angels). They had the easiest finishing slate with 22 straight games against losing teams (including 19 vs. the awful Rockies, Angels and A’s) yet began with three straight defeats to Sacramento’s temporary team. Dan Wilson managed the M’s to within one misguided pitch of their first World Series appearance last year but this season is such a mess some big changes are likely coming on some level. (They originally tried blaming it on an assistant hitting coach, but that obviously wasn’t the issue as the offense is worse since his firing.)

2. Tigers

A leaky bullpen rendered their plus-55 run differential worthless and has them 67-79. Excellent manager A.J. Hinch is liked there and expected back, though some believe the Astros may have long-term interest in bringing him back as GM eventually. (That’s more likely down the road.)
