The Memphis Grizzlies open a two-game road swing Monday against the LA Clippers. This will be the third meeting between the conference rivals this season. Memphis defeated LA 112-107 on Nov. 28 and 107-98 on Dec. 5, marking its first consecutive wins over the Clippers since the 2022 season.

The Grizzlies are coming off a 130-126 loss to the Utah Jazz, where Ja Morant made his much-awaited return after missing 10 games due to a calf injury. Santi Aldama led the team with 22 points, while Morant added 21 points and 10 assists, and Cam Spencer chipped in 20 points.

Memphis have been competitive on the road, posting a 3-1 record in their past outings and a 7-3 mark over their last 10 games. That run has pushed them up to ninth in the Western Conference, a position few expected after everything the team has dealt with this season.

The Clippers, meanwhile, enter Monday’s matchup having lost three straight games and carrying a mediocre 3-7 record at home and a 6-19 mark overall. Los Angeles sits in the bottom three of the Western Conference, just half a game ahead of the 14th-place Sacramento Kings and two games clear of the last-place New Orleans Pelicans.

Depth scoring has been a persistent issue, with the Clippers posting the league’s fourth-worst offense during that stretch at just 111.6 points per game. If they don’t start posting more wins soon, a coaching change could be in order.

While Jalen Morant’s return has been thrilling, the team’s success still depends heavily on its defense. The team lost the rebounding battle 58-49 in the absence of 7-foot-3 center Zach Edey.

Edey was the latest addition to the team’s injury list after suffering a stress reaction in his left ankle. He will be out for the next four weeks.

The team will also be without John Konchar (torn UCL), Javon Small (toe), Ty Jerome (calf) and Scottie Pippen Jr. (toe). Additionally, Brandon Clarke is dealing with a knee injury.

Jaren Jackson Jr., Santi Aldama, Cedric Coward, Jaylen Wells and Ja Morant are expected to be the starters.

The big question for the Clippers’ lineup is whether James Harden will suit up. The guard is listed as questionable with a left calf contusion. He played 40 minutes in Friday’s game against Houston but is expected to undergo a late medical check before tipoff.

Apart from Harden, Nicolas Batum (illness) is also questionable, while Bradley Beal and Derrick Jones Jr. remain out.

Kawhi Leonard, John Collins, Ivica Zubac, James Harden and Kris Dunn are most likely to start. If Harden misses, Bogdan Bogdanovic is expected to replace him.
