Kachow! The Anaheim Ducks 10th overall selection in the 2025 NHL Draft has embraced his name. The franchise unveiled today that Roger McQueen will be wearing number 95 as his jersey number.
This comes after the Ducks flew their prized pick to Disneyland to take a picture with Lightning McQueen from Cars post draft. The popular character of course used number 95 throughout the films. Roger McQueen never wore the number in juniors but after repeated calls from the fandom will now will be switching to 95 in the NHL.
Not only is this a heartwarming story from California, but it could also prove to be a genius business move as number 95 McQueen jerseys will likely fly off the shelves of the Honda Center. Once McQueen makes it to the Ducks, this could be amongst the highest sold jerseys in the league.
The 18 year old center from Saskatoon will be a key piece of this emerging Ducks young forward core that includes the likes of Leo Carlsson, Mason McTavish, Cutter Gauthier and Troy Terry. Last year in an injury shortened season with the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings, he recorded 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 17 games. The 6'5'' beast could be a painful power forward to play against.
McQueen will likely return to play another year with his junior team next season. Anaheim Ducks fans will have to wait for now to see him don 95 for their team. Until then, it will be fun to watch the likeable prospect's rise to the show.
