Maxx Crosby weighs in on two of Raiders' candidates for head coach

The Las Vegas Raiders have interviewed several candidates for their head coach vacancy since the firing of Antonio Pierce following the 2024 season. Two of those candidates are Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.

Star edge rusher Maxx Crosby was a guest on "Good Morning Football" on Friday and touched on Johnson and Carroll. When asked which candidate could change the team's culture, Crosby said he wasn't sure.

"I wish I knew. At the end of the day, history speaks for itself," Crosby said. "Look at what Ben Johnson has been able to do and what Dan Campbell has built in Detroit."

Crosby went on to praise Johnson as "the best play-caller in football" and said that just because he doesn't have head coach experience, that doesn't mean Johnson won't be successful.

"Ben Johnson is probably the best play-caller in football right now," Crosby said. "As for the cultural part of it, it’s no secret that [Ben] Johnson hasn’t been a head coach. Sean McVay wasn’t a head coach before the Rams hired him, and he’s been incredible."

"There are guys who come in and excel in that role," Crosby added. "I can’t say for sure Johnson would be great as a head coach since he hasn’t done it yet, but he has the potential to be one of the best."

Crosby also heaped praise on Carroll.

"Pete Carroll is another great example," he said. "(Carroll) has won everywhere he’s been. For me, I’m heavily involved, I do my homework, and I care about this deeply. It’s my life — it’s all I think about."

Crosby's opinion obviously matters. After leaving the door open when it comes to his future with the Raiders, who the team hires could play a big factor in Crosby's desire to stay.

Johnson appears to be the No. 1 target for the Raiders currently and momentum has been building for the Raiders to hire him. But Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal recently said he believes that if Johnson doesn't take the Raiders job, Carroll will be the fallback option.
