The Boston Red Sox have been looking for a right-handed bat for a while now, preferably for the DH or second base positions. However, in this proposed trade by Play Tessie, this would add a righty bat to a position that definitely needs some depth for the Sox: catcher. The trade would look like this:
Boston Red Sox receive: Ivan Herrera
St. Louis Cardinals receive: Kutter Crawford
Herrera is definitely a rising star, who just had his best hitting year last season. He slashed .301/.372/.428/.800 with 12 doubles and five home runs. He also would be great financially, as he has two years of arbitration left on his contract.
Currently the Sox only have one quality catcher left in Connor Wong, so this would definitely provide some support to him. As for the Cardinals, they get another starting pitcher, which they definitely need.
The only thing that may be different about this trade is the Sox may ask for more due to the pitching market being so crazy.
However, this is definitely a win-win trade. Hopefully, the Sox take something like this into consideration for getting another right-handed bat to go with a supposed superstar signing.
