Max Scherzer daughter letter: How Toronto granted 8-year old’s wish with return to Blue Jays

1 hour ago 3

Max Scherzer is one of the best pitchers in MLB history, and now, he’s staying north of the border to finish what he started.

After helping the Blue Jays reach their first World Series since 1993 and pitching into the late innings of Game 7 last November, "Mad Max" has officially re-signed with the club on a one-year, $3 million deal. While his veteran leadership and postseason grit were major factors in the reunion, the three-time Cy Young winner admitted that his performance on the mound wasn't the only reason he’s back.

The true closer in the negotiations might have been his eight-year-old daughter, Brooke. On Thursday, just as the deal became official, Scherzer’s wife, Erica, shared a photo of a heartfelt, handwritten letter Brooke had penned to the Blue Jays front office back in December.

The letter, which detailed the family's love for "See And Tower" (the CN Tower) and Ripley's Aquarium, quickly went viral among Jays fans. While GM Ross Atkins was likely focused on Scherzer's 2025 impact, the pitcher made it clear that the family's connection to the city made the decision easy.

"My love for the game is strong because of their love for the game," Scherzer said. It appears Brooke got her wish, and the Scherzer family will have at least one more summer to visit the aquarium while "Mad Max" tries to finish the job he started last fall.

Who is Max Scherzer’s daughter?

As the eldest child of Max and Erica Scherzer, 8-year-old Brooke has become a fan favorite in Toronto for her earnest support of her father’s career.

Born in 2017 during Max's tenure with the Washington Nationals, she has grown up in the spotlight of Major League ballparks, often seen celebrating on the field during his championship runs.

Her mother, Erica, frequently shares glimpses of their family life, portraying Brooke as a thoughtful and observant child who has fully embraced the nomadic lifestyle of a professional athlete's family.

Brooke captured the hearts of the Blue Jays faithful in early 2026 when her handwritten letter to the front office went viral following Max's re-signing. In the note, which she insisted her parents mail back in December, she politely expressed her condolences for the team's World Series loss before pitching for her father’s return.
