Mavericks Rumors: Patrick Dumont Prevents Potential Anthony Davis Injury Disaster by Stepping in to Stop Rushed Comeback

Dallas Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison has been under fire since the Luka Doncic trade to Los Angeles in February. ESPN’s Tim MacMahon on Monday on the “Hoops Collective” alongside Brian Windhorst reported that the trust between owner Patrick Dumont and Harrison has “completely disintegrated.”

MacMahon claimed that sources suggested Dumont is now personally approving star forward Anthony Davis’ return from injury. This will potentially bypass Harrison’s input, and an internal disagreement arose when Davis wanted to play in Washington on Saturday.

“Dumont is now personally approving when AD can return from his calf strain, regardless of Nico’s opinion. AD wanted to play in Washington Saturday and there was “internal disagreement” over whether he should.”

Furthermore, according to MacMahon, there’s a strong chance of a front office shakeup in Dallas.

"There's a whole lot of things that ain't good with the Mavericks," MacMahon said. "And hey, at this point, I believe it is a matter of when, not if, Nico Harrison will be fired." "There is a very, very strong likelihood that it will be mid-season," he added. "Maybe they can get things turned around, maybe his seat can go from sizzling to more normal temperature, but I always say every time I think that they've hit rock bottom, they find a way to drill deeper."

The Dallas Mavericks (3-7) have struggled this season. 2025 NBA No. 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg is being played in an experimental point guard position due to injuries to Kyrie Irving, who is still recovering from a lengthy ACL injury.

Davis is on and off due to a calf injury. Offseason acquisition D’Angelo Russell has struggled to run the Mavs’ offense and Klay Thompson has been relegated to a bench role.

While their situation might be down to injuries and bad luck, the Doncic saga still haunts Nico Harrison. Fans have continued with the “Fire Nico Harrison” chant and the main decision makers are reacting, albeit not in Harrison’s favour.

What’s next for Dallas Mavericks?

The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly looking to end the tenure of GM Nico Harrison following the team’s early struggles. While Dumont in public reportedly prefers to give Harrison more time, internal talks are underway about a possible in-season front-office change if things don’t improve.

However, if the team continues to underperform, the ownership will likely decide whether Harrison deserves to remain the GM. If a change is made, the franchise’s leadership has to assure disgruntled fans that the team is moving in the right direction, as scars still remain from the Doncic trade.

Next for the Mavericks is a home game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday.
