The Dallas Mavericks, a team that was one of the best in the NBA just a few years ago, obviously made one of the worst moves in NBA history when they decided to move on from superstar Luka Doncic.
The idea of moving on from Doncic was never the right one, even though some in the Mavericks organization at the time tried to make it seem that way. As a result, the focus now is to ensure Cooper Flagg has the brightest future in Dallas.
There's absolutely no reason for the Mavericks to do anything else besides make the necessary moves around Flagg, which could even result in the front office moving on from veteran players like Kyrie Irving.
According to the latest report, however, the Mavericks haven't given any indication that Irving could be on the move.
“Kyrie Irving, Mavericks. (Remaining contract: two years, $81 million.) The Mavericks have yet to give any indication that they are going to move Irving, at least in the short term. The Timberwolves’ move for LaMelo Ball crosses them off the list of Irving suitors, and there would not be many more other teams interested in him,” Sean Deveny wrote.
I wouldn't hate the idea of trading Irving, but only if it were for a perfect return.
At this stage of his career, there probably isn't a return that makes much sense for Dallas. For that reason and more, it wouldn't be surprising to see him stay on the roster and try to compete with him, Flagg, and some other talented young players in the organization.
