Just a few weeks after being hired as the Mavericks' new team president, Masai Ujiri didn't waste time making key moves within the franchise.
Mavericks part ways with Jason Kidd one year after handing out long-term contract extension
On Tuesday evening, the Mavericks announced they mutually parted ways with head coach Jason Kidd, who had been with the team for the last five seasons, including the year they made a run to the NBA Finals in 2024.
A lot has transpired in Dallas during that time, including trading away Luka Doncic, trading for and trading away Anthony Davis and drafting a potential future superstar player in Cooper Flagg last summer.

“As we evaluate the future of our basketball program, we believe this is the right moment for a new direction for our team,” Ujiri said in the Mavericks' press release.
NBA insider Shams Charania detailed that Kidd was due four more years on his contract, with over $40 million to be paid.
The Mavs had a record of 26-56 this past season, their worst in the Kidd era.
The team dealt with some injuries throughout the year, but they appear to be shifting into a new era that's shaped around Cooper Flagg.
Earlier in the season, former general manager Nico Harrison was fired, so this isn't the first major staff change to occur in the last 12 months.
The Mavs will now begin searching for their next head coach, as they look to get back to winning ways soon.
