Mavericks exploring trade market for recent first-round pick

The Dallas Mavericks are looking to make some deals this summer, and they might have to part with a rising star.

Over the past few weeks, the Mavericks have been preparing for the arrival of No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg and also turned their attention toward the upcoming free agency period. Beginning on Monday night, teams can start to make offers to free agents from around the league.

With the Mavericks being closely linked to D’Angelo Russell among other options, they will soon need to make some other decisions about their roster. While Dallas has an open roster spot, a deal with Russell might not be the only move the Mavericks make on the free agent market, which would force them to move another player.

As reported by Marc Stein, the Mavericks are looking at the trade market for Olivier-Maxence Prosper. After being drafted by the team in the first round in 2023, Prosper has seen limited opportunities to make his mark on an NBA court.

With a handful of factors in that equation, Prosper could be moved to a team willing to absorb his salary, which could give him a chance to showcase his talents. While Dallas has a spot open for Russell already, Stein reported that bringing back Dante Exum is also a priority for the Mavericks, and they would need another roster spot for that deal.
