Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison caught strays after the mid-season blockbuster trade, where he traded away franchise icon Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis. The move turned many away from the Mavericks, who just went all the way to the NBA Finals in 2024.
However, those fans had something to smile about after the Mavericks, despite just a 1.8% chance in the lottery, received the opportunity to land the first overall pick. If there was any draft class where you want the first pick, it is this one since it has a highly acclaimed Duke Blue Devils star, Cooper Flagg.
Mavericks draft picks 2025: When does Dallas pick?
The first round of the 2025 NBA draft will take place on Wednesday at 8 PM ET. The second round will take place the following day at the same time.
The Mavericks have only one pick with them, but it's the most precious one: No. 1 pick. Unless Harrison has more surprises in his kitty, it will only be a formality until we witness Cooper Flagg getting called up by Adam Silver as the first overall pick.
Flagg's coach at Duke, Jon Scheyer, has also said that the Mavericks will be a "dream place" for the reigning National College Player of the Year to begin his NBA career.
"To me, it's a dream spot," Scheyer said of the Mavericks. "I really feel that way."
"He's not going to go into Dallas thinking he's got all the answers," Scheyer said. "He's going to learn from Kyrie, he's going to learn from [Davis]. He's going to learn from Derek Lively and Jason Kidd and his staff. He's coming in to learn, and I think that's a special part about him."
With Flagg and Kyrie Irving returning by January or February, the Mavs hold a good chance to come out swinging in the Western Conference.
