Matthew Stafford's retirement plans were recently revealed before Rams' season-ending loss

Matthew Stafford did pretty much everything he could during Sunday's NFC Championship Game.

In the end, the Los Angeles Rams' defense couldn't stop the Seattle Seahawks offense led by Sam Darnold. It was a loss that felt a bit similar to Stafford's days with the Detroit Lions.

And with it, the Seahawks go to the Super Bowl, and the Rams' season is over.

Is that it on Stafford's career?

Maybe not so fast on that, even with the all-time great QB at 38 years old now.

Is Matthew Stafford retiring?

Sports Illustrated's national NFL writer, Greg Bishop, wrote recently that Stafford likely isn't going anywhere.

"The handshake deal remains in place," Bishop wrote. "Each year, Stafford and the Rams will do their own assessments. Never say never, but no one in his inner circle believes Stafford will retire after this season, even if he wins another championship and could retire, like (John) Elway, completing the rarest sendoff in pro football — out on top."

In the regular season, Stafford threw for 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns.

He threw just eight interceptions and had the lowest interception percentage of his career.

Stafford has thrown 423 regular season TDs with 64,516 passing yards in 17 seasons in the league.

He won a Super Bowl ring with the Rams already, and it seems likely that he's going to chase another one next year.
