Los Angeles Rams star quarterback Matthew Stafford spoke candidly about his future with the team.
Stafford spoke to the media on Thursday after OTAs and was asked if he plans to finish his career with the Rams. The 38-year-old dropped an intriguing hint about finishing his career in Los Angeles.
"I'm not going to sit here and try to predict the future," Stafford said. "That would probably be a yes... I don't know what's going to happen. I do love playing here. I love playing for this organization and my family loves it here."
Rams committed to Matthew Stafford despite drafting successor
The 2025 NFL MVP spoke on a variety of things, including the massive contract extension that he signed last week.
The contract Stafford signed keeps him locked up in Los Angeles through the 2027 season. By the end of that contract, the Texas native will be 40 years old.
It's unclear if he will still want to play, especially when factoring in whether he can still perform at an elite level, how his body holds up, and if he ultimately decides he’d rather spend more time with his family.
The Rams are on the Stafford timeline, despite selecting his potential successor with the 13th overall pick in Ty Simpson in last month's draft. The pick was a bit of a head scratcher for some when it happened; however, Stafford's closer to the end of his career rather than the beginning.
The 18-year veteran said he understood the selection and is focused on winning football games.
"I understand where the team's coming from," Stafford said. "Listen, I'm not 25 years old and I get that. So we're doing everything we can to be as good a football team as we can for now, for the future, for all of it."
If Stafford is healthy and upright in 2026, expect the Rams to be a juggernaut this upcoming season.
