John Cena's in-ring career ended on December 13 at Saturday Night's Main Event when he tapped out to Gunther. A WWE Hall of Famer believes the company made a huge mistake or missed an opportunity with Cena's retirement.
SNME was held at the Capital One Center in Washington, D.C., breaking the record for the highest-grossing WWE arena event ever. It was initially rumored to be scheduled in Boston, but it wasn't meant to be.
Speaking on the latest episode of his My World podcast, Jeff Jarrett and co-host Conrad Thompson discussed John Cena's retirement. Thompson brought up if WWE could have done it in a bigger venue.
Jarrett agreed with Thompson's take, saying that WWE and TKO could have made more money if the event was held in a stadium like WrestleMania or SummerSlam.

"I think it could have done big-time stadium business. Why didn't they do that? Is another question I have. Why didn't, if TKO is all bottom line driven, why didn't they go to Miami?" Jarrett said. It's unclear why Jeff Jarrett suggested Miami, but the city is the home of the world-class Hard Rock Stadium. South Beach also has very favorable weather in December compared to Boston or New York.
John Cena explains why he tapped out to Gunther
One of the reasons why a lot of fans were upset that John Cena lost his retirement match to Gunther is because he tapped out. Cena was the embodiment of someone who never quits and never gives up. However, that went out of the window after he tapped out against Gunther while smiling at SNME.
In his appearance on Cody Rhodes' What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast as a retired WWE legend, Cena explained that it was his way of saying goodbye.
"As I essentially take my last breath, I have struggled. If you think of somebody, the natural cause of scenario or however we picture loss in our life, all of us have been through it. They struggle, they struggle, they struggle. They hang on just long enough to make sure to say goodbye to everybody that's been meaningful in their lives," Cena said. [H/T USA Today]While Cena's in-ring career is over, he will remain part of the WWE as an ambassador. He recently signed a five-year deal to represent the company in outside endeavors.
