Mary Bonnet is entering a new era — one without alcohol.
The “Selling Sunset” star tells Page Six’s “Virtual Real-Tea” that she recently made the choice to stop drinking, a decision that came on the heels of filming a highly emotional Season 9.
It was a season involving clashes with Chelsea Lazkani and Chrishell Stause, as well as the stress of dealing with a traumatic home burglary.
Bonnet, 45, explains that alcohol once served a purpose as she navigated the pressures of reality TV, high-stakes real estate and personal turmoil — but eventually, it stopped helping.
“It used to help. Something would be stressful and … it would just take the edge off,” she explains. “And then when you live this life, well, every day there is something crazy, dramatic going on. And then I started feeling like it was just causing more anxiety.”
As the season intensified — both onscreen and off — Bonnet began reassessing her habits. She emphasizes that she never felt her drinking was “problematic,” but she couldn’t ignore a pattern that didn’t sit right with her.
“There were no issues. Nothing bad ever happened,” she tells us, noting that she’s always been highly self-aware. “I was looking at it and I’m like, ‘I can’t remember for the last couple months one day where I didn’t have at least one drink.’ I was like, ‘That’s not cool.’ So I was like, ‘We’re gonna take a break here.’”
The decision, she says, wasn’t sparked by a dramatic moment or outside pressure. Instead, it was about prioritizing her well-being — something that became especially important while filming scenes fueled by tension and vulnerability.
“Nothing bad happened, no one ever noticed, I didn’t drop the ball on anything,” she says. “But for me, just for my health, for my mental health, I thought, ‘We’re gonna take a break.’ And I did. And it was easy. I feel good, I feel great.”

These days, Bonnet says she feels clearer, calmer and far more grounded. And while she’s not ruling out the occasional celebratory sip, she simply doesn’t crave alcohol anymore.
“Now if I want to go have a toast with somebody or something, I’ll do that,” she shares. “But I don’t really want to drink. I don’t want to do anything. I just don’t think it’s serving me like it used to.”
One of the biggest benefits, she adds, is emotional regulation — something that came into sharp focus while navigating difficult moments with her castmates.
“I can keep my emotions more in check,” she says. “My head is clear where I’m not overreacting to things … I’m in a calm state of mind without anxiety about what’s gonna happen.”
Despite lightening her intake, Bonnet says she was always a responsible drinker.

“I’m a good drinker,” she insists with a laugh. “I’m always happy and I always know what I’m doing … I would never get drunk. Just for my health, I thought in every aspect of my life, I’m going to take a step back.”
And she hasn’t sacrificed any fun in the process.
“I have mocktails all the time now and it’s the same thing to me,” she says, sharing that she recently enjoyed chips, salsa, guac and a virgin margarita. “To me, it’s the same thing … I don’t need the alcohol in it. And my brain’s still super clear afterwards.”
With a clearer head, a calmer spirit and a new favorite drink order, Bonnet is embracing her alcohol-free chapter — and feeling better than ever.
