Marlins tagged as a 'sneaky fit' to sign this two-time All-Star slugger

After years of holding onto Edward Cabrera, the Miami Marlins now thought it was time to move on from him. They agreed to ship him to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for exciting prospect Owen Cassie, Cristian Hernandez, and Edgardo De Leon.

But that was not all. The front office also shipped Ryan Weathers to the New York Yankees in exchange for Brendan Jones, Dillon Lewis, Dylan Jasso, and Juan Matheus.

The farm system is now looking much better than it did before these trades. Now, with these two gone, is the front office handcuffed to Sandy Alcantara, or could fans see him on the move for more farm system depth?

Fans will have to wait on the Sandy Alcantara news, but it seems doubtful that Miami would move on from Alcantara as well. However, the front office also has some other concerns it must answer.

Although they came to terms with Pete Fairbanks, another bullpen piece would not hurt. But, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer takes that a step further and believes they could be a surprising fit to sign one of the top free agents left.

"And after hitting only 154 home runs in 2025, they should be a sneaky fit for Eugenio Suarez after his 49-homer campaign."

Suarez is the best-hitting free agent on the market, and signing him would greatly improve a lackluster offense from last season. He would be the middle-of-the-order bat that Miami is looking for, but they are not the only ones tied to Suarez.

The Seattle Mariners are still at play to re-sign Suarez, as well as the Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Boston Red Sox. So, if the Marlins want to see him in Miami blue this upcoming season, they might have to empty their pockets.
