Marlins linked to $2.85 million corner infielder from Twins in trade deadline rumor

The Miami Marlins are one of the surprise National League postseason contenders in 2026.

To earn a playoff berth and make a deep run, they'll need at least one more impact bat in their lineup.

The Athletic's Jim Bowden reports that the Marlins will not shy away from trading the top pitchers in their organization to acquire a slugger or two.

"The Marlins continue to prioritize adding offense and are willing to trade from their strong cabinet of pitching prospects," Bowden wrote. "The position with the biggest need for more thump is third base. Possible trade targets for them include Josh Jung, Royce Lewis and Nolan Gorman."

Jung and Gorman would both be solid additions at third for the Marlins, but there's no telling if either the Texas Rangers or St. Louis Cardinals would be willing to depart with either player.

That makes Lewis from the Minnesota Twins a more logical and cost-friendly option.

"The Twins are desperate for pitching upgrades and would have to consider dangling Lewis at this point," Bowden added. "He only makes $2.85 million and would fit in Miami’s challenging budget."

The Twins sent Lewis down earlier this season, but he crushed Triple-A pitching and earned a call back to the Majors quickly.

Injuries are a concern, but Lewis can provide the Marlins with more power in the middle of the order. He's also controllable through the 2028 season.
