Mariners swipe $3.8 million international phenom from Yankees

The Seattle Mariners picked up a big win over the New York Yankees on Sunday.

Yes, it's a weird time of year for that to be true, but it definitely is with this agreed-to signing.

The news is this, from MLB insider Francys Romero:

"Dominican infielder Mairon De La Rosa is expected to sign with the Seattle Mariners for around $3.8M when a new international period opens Jan. 15, 2027, per source. A switch-hitter and top prospect, he recently returned to the market after a prior deal with the Yankees."

That's a massive win.

That $3.8 million bonus, if it sticks, will be one of the highest in the 2027 international class.

These deals technically aren't supposed to be agreed upon ahead of time, but pretty much every top international prospect does just that.

The Yankees don't have an international scouting director at the moment, and they continue to lose signings.

That has allowed other teams to swoop in.

In this case, it's the Mariners.

They have had recent success in the international market, most notably with superstar centerfielder Julio Rodriguez.

Seattle will spend the next year doing what it can to maintain this relationship and keep De La Rosa lined up to sign with the Mariners.
