Mariners rumored to trade for All-Star NL East infielder

Teams everywhere are looking to upgrade their rosters — even with the trade deadline many weeks away.

The Mariners are no different, with the club looking to potentially trade for Phillies’ All-Star Alec Bohm to help fill their needs at third base.

“The emergence of Ben Williamson at third base has been huge for the Mariners, but there’s a good chance the rookie will go through a prolonged slump at some point. Bohm, who is under club control through 2026, would give the M’s an insurance policy for Williamson and a potential answer at first base for this year and next year,” Seattle Sports wrote.

Although predicting a slump is inherently hypothetical, it’s always a good idea for teams to improve their depth. Acquiring a legitimate third base bat who is postseason-proven would do wonders for the Mariners down the stretch of the season.

“A right-handed bat, Bohm has made 504 of his 591 career starts at third and 84 at first. Last season he showed huge improvements defensively, posting a positive outs above average (plus-five) for the first time since debut in 2020,”

Although Bohm would likely cost quite a bit, any offensive additions would be welcomed by Mariners fans. Time will tell if the team and GM Jerry Dipoto decide to make any significant moves before the trade deadline.

Bohm is hitting just .258 with two homers thus far in 2025 — a change of scenery might not be the worst thing in the world for all parties involved.
